Sting To Christen Poznan Stadium
Legendary U.K rocker Sting will be the first act to play Poznan's state of the art new stadium. The venue, which is being built for the Euro 2012 soccer tournament (jointly hosted by Poland and Ukraine), will be the first to be inaugurated of Poland's four new stadiums.
Sting, born Gordon Sumner, enjoys considerable status in Poland, not least due to his halycon days with band The Police. He has visited Poland six times, but the upcoming gig on September 20th will be his first Poznan performance.
Sting also has a long history of supporting humanitarian causes, and his efforts to save the rainforests have resulted in a species of Columbian tree frog being named after him, Dendropsophus Stingi.
