Slav Epic Painting Cycle Opens
The much-anticipated opening of the 'Slav Epic' series of paintings by Art Nouveau master Alfons Mucha has taken place at Prague's Trade Fair Palace.
The exhibition will run for two years, showcasing these enormous works which were originally painted by the artists between 1910 and 1928. The twenty allegoric paintings, each measuring roughly 8 by 6 metres, explore the history of the Slavic people through mythology. The paintings were locked in a legal battle for many years and comes 84 years after Mucha gave his paintings to the city. The Trade Fair Centre has been renovated and modernized and will show the giant canvases until spring 2014, when the paintings will be moved to the walls of the Fanta Cafe in the main railway station.
