Sokolovna is in many ways an archetypal Czech restaurant with a wide range of national dishes, low prices, friendly staff, and a loud, smoky ambience (though there is a small non-smoking section). Popular with locals, the menu features grilled meat dishes to share, fried cheese, goulash soup, and the highly recommended ‘Moravian Sparrow’ - roast pork served with red and white cabbage and bread dumplings, a safe bet for those unfamiliar with Czech culinary classics. Beer lovers should try the draught Kozel Cerny, an excellent dark beer not widely available on tap elsewhere, ideally to be accompanied by one of Sokolovna’s high quality and comprehensive range of traditional Czech beer snacks.
