Editor's review
There are skeletons, and bits of bodies that have been surplus to requirements for quite some time. Which is really the reason why lay people visit this kind of place - the 'that's inside of me' yuck factor, which is also strangely fascinating.
The museum of anatomy has been gathering artefacts relating to the mechanisms that keep the human body working for almost a century now, and the result is fascinating enough to bring 11,000 people through the doors each year.
It's unique in Latvia, and serves a dual purpose in the capital. The first is to demonstrate to visitors to Riga the value of anthropological and anatomical research throughout the Baltic region. The second is to provide a repository of information and resources for medical professionals and trainees in all areas of health care.
Closed Sundays, Mondays, and the last Friday in each month.
