Popcorn argument ends in shooting

Tragedy struck a Riga cinema in February during a screening of the hit movie Black Swan.

Two men exchanged harsh words when one objected to the loud level of noise the other was making whilst eating popcorn.

According to witnesses, heated words had been said shortly after the beginning of the movie. The tension then appeared to subside, but towards the end of the film, matters deteriorated. When the final credits began to roll, the younger man, a 27 year-old law student, stood up and shot the elder man.

Reportedly, the perpetrator then waited for the police to come and arrest him. An ambulance was called, but attempts to revive the man were unsuccessful.

The assailant had apparently graduated from police training school, but had never served in the force. The weapon is reputedly a legally registered firearm. An inquiry is currently being held.
