Wizz Air launches new Latvian link to Netherlands
Low-cost airline Wizz Air has launched a new service connecting Riga with the Dutch city of Eindhoven.
A special cake in the shape of a light bulb was baked to celebrate the new route.
Electronics company Philips, founded in 1891 in Eindhoven and with premises in the Latvian capital, sponsored the sweet tribute.
Philips itself began as a humble manufacturer of light bulbs in Eindhoven.
Flights from Eindhoven to Riga will be twice per week, on Mondays and Fridays.
At present, Wizz Air already flies to Riga from London Luton and Sandefjord near Oslo.
Other low-cost airlines that operate at Latvian capital include local option Air Baltic, as well as Ryanair.
Meanwhile, standard airlines with links to Riga include Aeroflot, Czech Airlines, Lot Polish Airlines and Lufthansa.
On 21 December, the airport welcomed its 5-millionth customer of the year, a lucky Mrs Dace Dizbite-Ose, who was awarded a special privilege card.
