A firm favourite with Latvia's alternative crowd, Depo has all the key ingredients required for a classic underground venue. Decor consisting solely of broken furniture and black paint, toilets graffitied with sexual obscenities (in various languages) and a musical programme that makes the Glastonbury line-up look like a commercial hit parade. Searching for this place on the net I found a band with the same name. They should get together and have a depo at depo night.

Authentically grimy bar for those of a nihilistic bent. Witnessed an evening of black metal in their downstairs venue. Was a little perturbed that people tended not to applaud between songs. Is that a cultural quirk or were they all merely underwhelmed?
I left Nautilus to explore this place 'cos i head it was pretty good. Unfortunately it was half empty and the people there were alternative is a distinctly hardcore kind of way... not for the Average Joe, but i can see the appeal
