Russia is still entrenched in Latvian culture, most notably in the number of people who still speak or understand the language. Nevertheless, it's something of a surprise to find a venue that harkens back to the good/bad old days (delete as applicable) of the Soviet Union.
It's a retro look, resplendent with relics of day to day life before independence, but with modern music and drinks that are not too badly priced.
There is of course no real cast backwards to the 1980s; nobody is evicted from their chair on false charges, it's pretty easy to get hold of a telephone (assuming you have a mobile), and the money in your pocket will be worth the same when you walk out as it was when you arrived. There will just be less of it.
