The full name of this bar is Melna Kaka Alus Ordenis, which means the Black Cat Beer Order. Quite what the cat has to do with proceedings is anyone's guess, but don't let that put you off from having a rollicking good time in this medieval beer cellar.
It's all simple fare at Alus Ordenis, mostly having something to do with beer (this part of the name is definitely spot on), but if you get peckish, order one of the traditional Latvian dishes on the menu. Just as with the reverence for beer and the atmosphere of the bar, the food is medieval in style - lots of meat (some with blood) and heavy but healthy grain-based dishes.
