Whether you need stamps for your postcards or to receive a fax from your grandmother, rarely does one not need a post office during their trip. The main post office of Riga (or Latvijas Pasts - no, that's not a sign for a time travel service, it's just a post office) is at Stacijas laukums 1, but there are dozens of locations throughout the city - just look for the yellow envelope.

I have tracked my package from NJ to Latvia. I received the following messages: Customs Clearance Processing Complete
LATVIA and this morning: Your item could not be delivered on February 24, 2021 at 8:01 am in LATVIA due to the addressee not available at time of delivery. It is being held while the addressee is notified. When my niece called the local post office they said that need to clear the item and most likely she will pay the fee. For what? A few presents? After I received the message that it was cleared? Who works in these facilities and do they have a manager? Unbelievable!
I have also sent money through the post to help a friend in Riga. ... and yes, my money was stolen too.
Do not send international postal packages of any kind to Latvia using the postal system. If content has anything of any value the scumbag workers will steal it before it even gets registered to have entered into the country and you won't even get an apology. Rather they will claim a package with that tracking number never entered the country. Damn thieves and useless managers who hire them.
ZERO STARS! I emailed the RIGA post office regarding on several occasions the disappearance of money sent via the post. These were minor sums to relatives. An anonymous, impolite reply from the post office implied that it was illegal to send money through the post. This may be true, although how is one supposed to know this? And what happens to confiscated money? Is there any accountability for this? Latvia contacts tell me the RIGA post office has a bad reputation. I can see why when money disappears and the manager refuses to communicate personally! I shall now be informing the local police and press so that they can investigate properly. Such a pity that this kind of thing gives Latvia a bad reputation.
Dear Riga Life team,
I would like to know if it would be possible to contact the main post office? My grandfather was born in Riga. He is now 91 years old Latvia collects stamps. His cousin was a short time in Riga before and should have a current Old Latvia bring Stamps catalog. She said that it is somehow at the post office still should give old stocks of stamps. She had spoken with an employee whose first name is Egils. And now we would like to know what would be possible for brands to sell?
With best regards
Nils Moss
I would like to contact the Post Office Inquiries Section about a registered letter that was sent on the 19th July, but unable to see the Postal Addresses in Latvia,in the sites I have visited. I do not live in the U.S. but you do not have my country listed. I live in the Cayman Islands
