Editor's review
El Chiringuito is a legend, not just in Sitges, but the whole of Spain. After all this beach bar is the original 'Chiringuito', the name now given to all the kiosk bars that dot the beaches from the Costa Brava down to Gibraltar and are one of the country's most loved institutions. Opened in 1913 by Captain Calafell, El Chiringuito originally sat on the rocks right beside the Mediterranean sea (in fact it's been destroyed by Neptune and faithfully rebuilt several times in its history), but now finds itself sitting pretty on the Passeig Maritim. At the time it was considered a cheap and lively alternative to the upscale Oriental Pavilion, and many intellectuals and artists would hang out here. For a slice of Sitges' history it doesn't get better than a coffee or cerveza at El Chiringuito overlooking the sea, and naturally hungry patrons can also order up some fresh seafood tapas. Perfection.
