More Communist Archives Declassified
More than 7,200 pages of archived material dating back to Bulgaria's communist regime were declassified and made available to the public on Monday.
The documents date from 1944 to 1990 and are hoped to shed more light on Bulgaria's communist past.
The move is part of an effort by Bulgaria's Interior Ministry to declassify government documents, a process that started this May. Bulgaria's ruling coalition is also trying to change the legislation regulating the opening of files, making it easier to release material.
However, all documents relating to the former security service, Durjavna Sigurnost, are still under tight control. These documents are only released following the personal approval of the interior minister.
