Bulgarian Medics on the Big Screen
Just a few months after the dramatic release of Bulgarian medics after spending eight years in prison in Libya, talks of turning their story into a Hollywood blockbuster have already begun. The five Bulgarian medics and one Palestinian doctor who were falsely accused of infecting children with HIV in Libya and imprisoned there will be portrayed by Hollywood actors, though no specific names have been decided yet.
The shooting of "The Benghazi Six", the film's tentative name, is expected to start in early 2008, with the film being shown worldwide in 2009. Much of the shooting of the film will take place in Sofia, including most of the Libyan scenes, which will be shot on set on the outskirts of Sofia. The main company behind the film is production company Sixth Sense Productions, and they are looking to get some big names involved to help them tell the story. And while the film's writers are getting facts and details from the medics themselves, as this is a Hollywood production, undoubtedly there will be some exaggerations and glamorizing involved.
