136 year anniversary of Vassil Levski's death

The greatest Bulgarian who's ever lived, Vassil Levski, is a national icon. He was an ideologist and an organizer of the Bulgarian national revolution. He played a huge role in leading to liberating Bulgaria from the Ottoman rule. He died as a martyr - sentenced to death and hung by the Ottomans on February 18 in 1873. Later, outside of Sofia, the Vassil Levski mountain was built on the place he was killed.

The beloved hero will be commemorated today in Sofia at 6 p.m. The celebrations will start in front of the Levski monument (the roundabout of Vassil Levski and Yanko Sakuzov boulevards), while wreaths and flowers are being laid in front of Levski's monuments throughout the country.
