Bulgarians back more ski resorts

A new Gallup international poll holds that two thirds of Bulgarians support the expansion of the ski industry in their country.

For several years now, Bulgaria has traded on being able to provide cut-price skiing options for those who aren't desperate to bankrupt themselves in the fancier resorts of France, Austria or Switzerland.

At present, the main Bulgarian resort is 12 km from the picturesque town of Bansko, which borders the Pirin National Park.

Another popular choice is Borovets, Bulgaria's oldest winter resort, where the Royal Family used to come for a bit of snowsurfing action.

Likewise, those in search of the white stuff might also head to Pamporovo, Europe's southernmost winter resort, which boasts both blue skies and snow in abundance.

Meanwhile, Chepelare, just 10 km from Pamporovo and 72 km from Plovdiv, is another established destination for skiers in the region.

The Bulgarian government now looks set to invest more cash in this burgeoning sector of the national economy.
