AirBaltic launches 'Seatbuddy' scheme

Latvia's national airline has launched a new Seatbuddy system that aims to place like-minded passengers together on flights.

Passengers are able to choose from three flight moods, segregating the chatty from those keen to get their head down and work.

Customers are not compelled to take part in the programme. However, if they do want to join in, they can submit data about anything from what sports they are keen on, and what line of the work they are in.

Preferred languages can be added to the database, as well as hobbies ans interests. Passengers can also choose a business networking category.

Airline staff will then try and find the ideal match for the flight in question.

Passengers will then receive what airBaltic describes as an ice-breaking introductory message to highlight common traits with the upcoming seat buddy.

The service has been introduced on selected routes but will soon be set up for all flights.
