St Petersburg Weather
What's the weather in St Petersburg like?
You might complain about the weather in St. Petersburg, and you would have good reason to, especially during winter. Seemingly endless nights, dull twilit days which are over in a flash, and a constant barrage of snow, sleet and ice - not to mention temperatures deep into the minus numbers. Yes the weather in St. Petersburg can get damn unfriendly! However Russians with a sense of history rarely complain to loudly about the weather - after all it was freezing cold conditions that hampered and harried the Nazis, during the Siege of Leningrad, and helped the citizens of St. Petersburg hold out when they might have otherwise have been crushed. Still the sensible tourist will probably choose to arrive in St. Petersburg during the summer, where the weather conditions, if not tropical, tend to be balmy and temperate. Of course the White Nights will be illuminating the sky at this time, lending St. Petersburg an extra bit of magic. So what are you waiting for? was the weather the same in 1917?
The weather here in St Pete's is very difficult to live with if you are not born in this sort of climate. I've been here for three and a half years, and I sometimes feel like I have become a schizophrenic! (maybe I have!) Brilliant in the summer, but absolute rubbish in winter...
