Ceremoniously opened in 1980 on "Soviet Revolution Day" (Nov. 7), Tallinn's TV tower is 314 metres high - an impressive and imposing piece of Soviet engineering. The observation deck at 170 metres is the highest in the Nordic countries, and on a good day visitors are able to see clear across the Gulf of Finland to their neighbor on the other side. On a not-so-clear day, you'll mostly be gazing at the Lasnamae suburb of Tallinn. Still, you might a giddy kick out of the lift ride and your subsequent expulsion from it into a world whose people and atmosphere seem to have changed little since 1980. Tickets are 50kr and there's a restaurant for those that want to really soak up the view.

If your interested in Sovietica and all its quirks check out the TV tower, it still has the feel of the CCCP even the food tastes like its been illegally shipped in from Azebaijan.
