Victor visits Tallinn

It's been a busy year for Tallinn, socially speaking, as the Estonian capital has played host to a number of VIPs. Heavy metal gurus Metallica were first up during summer, and drew record crowds to the Song Festival Grounds where they played, whilst Queen Liz popped in to say hello and got a very warm reception, complete with panoply of waving Union Jacks - no doubt got her thinking back to the good old Empire days! Oh yes, and one George Bush dropped by too...

The American president failed to charm the good citizens of Tallinn though with his paranoid security demands, amongst the most ludicrous of which were ordering people not to look out of their windows whilst his convoy drove past! I'm sure we don't need to tell you what we thought of that...

Anyway another premier, this time of a more modest and apparently ameniable nature, has recently touched down in Tallinn. Victor Yushchenko of the Ukraine arrived here to discuss business with newly elected Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves. Apart from economic and energy strategies Yushchenko is also keen to learn from Estonia's experience on how to get that all-important entry into the EU. Mark our words, come 2010 and Kiev will be the top destination for stags and cheapflights!
