Editor's review
This one's not so much a new museum as a reborn one. Flicking through prewar Baedeker guides you'll find plenty of info about the museum of the Liechtenstein princes. But the institution vanished from the map in the wake of the Second World War, when the collections relocated to Liechtenstein proper. The family never quite lost hope in bringing the Vienna enterprise back to life, and in 2001 the dream was realised. You'd never know that a bomb once obliterated a chunk of this building - the palace has been beautifully restored and the gardens returned to their former splendour. The collections will delight fans of the baroque (Rubens features prominently) and there's an atmospheric old library to explore. Look out for one-off exhibitions (see website for more details).
