Editor's review
Formerly the residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy, hammer of the Turks, the Belvedere is now one of Vienna's cultural meccas. For any Klimt or Schiele fan the gallery is a must, but even if the staff were to remove every last painting, the palace would still be worth the trip. It's a glorious piece of architecture and the views over Vienna are amongst the city's finest. Art lovers have a veritable banquet to savour, above all with the German and Austrian nineteenth century treasures. Caspar David Friedrich's moody canvases will entrance fans of the Romantic era, and fin-de-siecle treats are in abundance, most famously Gustav Klimt's The Kiss, which does live up to the hype.
