Chances are that even if you've never set foot in Vienna, the above building will be instantly familiar. Dubbed after its designer, the eccentric artist Friedrensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), the house was raised in the mid 80s with the help of architects Josef Krawine and Peter Pelikan. Full of flights of Gaudiesque fancy, the building contains 52 flats, four offices, numerous terraces and over 200 trees and bushes. That said, unless you're a resident or a local pigeon, getting inside may prove as tricky as an especially tricky circus trick. But it's not a complete cop out though. The wily Mr Hundertwasser designed a big complex over the road that comes complete with cafe and gift shop, so you won't go home empty-handed.
