All MESHUGGE? Jewish Wit and Humour

Woody Allen, Ephraim Kishon and Billy Wilder may be the best known Jewish humourists today, but apart from Hollywood, Jewish comedians with their feeling for everday situations and black undertones have played a major role in Viennese cultural life as well.

The exhibition "All MESHUGGE" illustrates the development of Jewish humour from its Yiddish roots to the cabaret culture in Berlin and Vienna during the 1920s and '30s to the effects of the Shoah. Another focus is set on characteristics of contemporary Jewish humour in the USA and Israel.
