Secreted away in the the so-called 'Spargelburg' (Asparagus Castle) the Residenz offers an exquisite alternative to your conventional grand hotel. This magnificent palace was originally built by the Saxe-Coburg's, who were related to half the reigning houses of Europe. Nowadays, part of the palace provides the home to a swish little hotel. The Residenz has suites only - 35 of them - and each is named after an illustrious scion of the Saxe-Coburg dynasty. Perks include one of the serenest swimming pools in town and a superb spa to boot. Nothing is too much trouble for the dedicated staff here - a standout.
