Vienna Victorious As World's Most Livable City
The Austrian capital has been ranked the world's finest city in a far-reaching survey carried out by London-based investment company Mercer.
Some 221 cities were considered in the programme, with factors such as housing, health services, cultural attractions, pollution, crime, liberty and transportation all weighed up.
Vienna pipped Zurich to the post, delighting Austrians, not least the Viennese themselves, who celebrated the news on the official city tourist web portal:
"A fact that makes millions of visitors to Vienna so enthusiastic has again been confirmed by a well-known international city survey: Viennaâs the best in every way!!!"
Outside of Europe, Vancouver, Auckland and Sydney all made the top ten. Meanwhile, unsurprisingly, Baghdad is at the bottom of the list. 15 of the 25 spots at the bottom of the list are in Africa.
