Conventional wisdom says that Viennese cuisine begins and ends with the schnitzel. Now, the schnitzel is indeed a venerable creation, and one that we hope to enjoy for many years to come. But the reality is that Viennese cuisine has absorbed more traditions than almost any city under the sun.
Given that the Habsburg crown once led some twenty European nations this is hardly surprising. Nowadays, those twenty nations no longer have to doff their cap to a surly Emperor, but they've left behind a host of culinary secrets. What's more, the Central European fare that Vienna knows inside out has recently been complimented by a spate of new arrivals. Vienna has discovered the Orient, which means even more variety. Of course, we haven't even mentioned cakes yet. In a nutshell, you're in gourmet heaven.....
Brings back wonderful memories, on my visits t0 Vienna my big brother used to take me there for a nice meal in a wonderful atmosphere. I still have the Speisekarte and Getränkeliste, both framed and hanging in my house - what memories ❣️
Why is everyone talking about this place in the past tense? I ate at the Stadtbeisl on Monday, September 19, 2022. (And it was wonderful)
Thank you for keeping the memory of this place alive. Vienna does not feel the same without it.
Thank you for keeping this restaurant's memory "alive". It was my favorite place. I can still feel the warmth, the visual splendor of the special serving of the soups, the Hubertus bier, and the superb smells and flavors of the food
It was a magical place where I took my girlfriend in the 50's, my daughter in the 70's and, as an expat, my nephews in the 80's. I could cry when I sttroll down Naglergasse now. Honestly.
Visited three times. Food and service very nice. However I am very allergic to garlic. When Anna took care of us no problem. Sebastian did not and I have been vert sick since
This place is awesome have been there twice now. This is a must when visiting Vienna !!
How I miss this restaurant. During the 80's and 90's we had wonderful meals here with great service. So well located by the main train station and mid priced hotels!
My boyfriend and I dined at this restaurant last night and would not recommend it to any travellers. Aside from the 1.5 hour wait for our meals in the almost empty establishment the more offensive matter was that they were cold. We ordered the veal steak but were unsure if that was one of the meals we were actually served as it tasted very metallic. The service and wine were so so. If you do intend in dining here do not ask the waiters to recommend wine as they offered us only the cheapest bottle. Overall quite disappointing.
