Editor's review
'Boiled Buttock' doesn't quite sound like the holy grail of gastronomy, but although some items on the menu got lost in translation, don't miss the chance to dine at this stalwart of the Tafelspitz trade. Plachutta specialises in the boiled beef dishes that the Viennese love so much. Simple as they might sound, most require drawn out preparations with plenty of time set aside for the meat to marinade. The classic Tafelspitz (Beef rump boiled with root vegetables) was a favourite dish of none other than Emperor Franz Joseph I, so you'll be following in famous footsteps. Besides the boiled numbers, Plachutta also makes marvellous Zwiebelrostbraten, as well as a handful of non-beefy options. Service is professional without being snooty - all in all a standout.
