Editor's review
Terribly tricky to pronounce for anyone not from Poland, Trzesniewski is an institution here in Vienna, often saluted as a city highlight in itself. The ingredients seem simple enough - miniature open sandwiches on dark brown bread. What's all the fuss? But no one made them quite like Mr. Trzesniewski, who came here from Cracow in 1902. The Austrian Empire folded soon afterwards, but Mr. T stayed on in Vienna where his business went from strength to strength. His daughter Maria finally passed over the reins in 1978, but locals say that the quality has not slipped. Order up a Pfiff of beer and savour a Viennese classic.
