Editor's review
On February 16, 1918, 20 men gathered at this house in the centre of Vilnius to mark a historic moment. Each lifted a pen, lightweight in itself yet at the same time bearing the massive burden of history, and signed his name at the bottom of a piece of paper.
This was a moment crucial to Lithuanian national identity, for the document they signed established Lithuanian indepdendence.
The men all went on to serve their newly-formed nation, and members of their families still donate items for display in the museum.
The building itself has a fascinating history too, having been first mentioned in the historical record in the 17th century. Since then it has survived fire, been part of the church estate, and housed a goldsmith and an inn, to name just too.
