Alexander Pushkin is recognised as one of the great Russian writers... so what is Lithuania doing with a monumental museum in his name?
The link, to be honest, is a little tenuous. He never went to Vilnius, or to anywhere else in Lithuania for that matter. But his son Grigory got married there, and this is enough for locals to have opened a museum in his honour.
They've done a pretty good job of it too, renovating Grigory's former home, the Markučiai manor, and mounting exhbitions on the literary works of Pushkin and their translations into Lithuanian, and also to the lives of the Russian nobles who lived in and around the city.
