The story of the Vilniaus Baletas is one of struggle and survival, and ultimately triumph, for there was a time not so long ago when the theatre did not legally exist.
It began in 1980, with an ethos of art and freedom - not things that were looked kindly upon in Lithuania before the collapse of Communism. Nevertheless, the team behind the theatre persevered, and now it is one of the jewels in Vilnius' cultural crown, featuring new and traditional performances and adaptations from around the world.
