Editor's review
A little off the beaten track, on the edge of Vilnius, the Paneriai Memorial Museum is nevertheless a must-see site for anyone interested in the recent history of Lithuania and the fate of the Jews who lived there.
It is a small museum dedicated to the memory of the genocide that took place, and includes burial pits, statues and more.
It's a chilling reminder of the scale of the killings under the Nazis. They took over the site, and used the fuel storage pits dug by the Soviets, for disposing of the bodies of their victims. A sombre but essential stop on any tour of Vilnius' museums.
