Even though a good deal of the furnishings have been lost, the Bernardine Church (pictured right) still holds its own as one of the most magnificent houses of worship in Vilnius. A far-reaching programme of revovation is underway, with pre-war photographs revealing the splendour of the lost wooden altar-pieces. The church is also blessed with some magnificent frescoes, and expert hands may yet tip the balance and give them a new lease of life. Also interesting are the diamond vaults, which later struck a chord with the 1920's avant-garde.
