If you're arriving in Vilnius by air, why not start your holiday in style by jumping into an Avis car right at the airport. They're open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you're already in town, no problem, you can drop by their office at Laisves Av 3, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm, (weekends 9 to 5) to sort yourself out some wheels (just give the code "o788355" to get started). Avis have got a great fleet of cars ready to drive away including Opel Corsas, Toyotas and Renault Espaces. Book your car online, or to find out more just go to the site, click 'Display Rental Agreement' and hit 'Ask Avis'. Avis' English language website should be able to answer all your queries and if it can't, you can contact them directly.
And once you're all buckled up and raring to go, Vilnius and its surroundings are yours to discover. There are some great little 'escapes' that easily be reached by car from the city centre. One of these is Trakai, a tranquil lakeside town, which was once the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Trakai. You can potter around the windy streets with their hotchpotch of traditional style houses, sample some freshly caught eel and check out its mighty medieval castle.
