Editor's review
Steeped in history, the National Theatre has hosted premieres by many of the bright lights in Poland's theatrical canon from enlightenment wits like Jan Potocki to Neo-Romantic visionaries such as Stanislaw Wyspianski. The building has moved premises a number of times, but the National now has a base in the Grand Theatre, mecca of Polish opera and theatre since 1828. The National's programme takes in everything from Polish gems by Gombrowicz, Witkacy and Rozewicz, to European works in Polish old and new by writers as varied as Shakespeare and Pinter. The Grand Theatre also contunues it's tradition as the home of Polish Opera.
