Play: "The Mother Again"

Montownia Artistic Centre is the only theatre in Warsaw with regular presentations in English, as part of their "English Stage" cycle. This time, the theatre is doing an English take on famous Polish writer and artist Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy). "The Mother Again" ("Powrot Matki") is based on an "unsavoury play" by Witkiewicz, the grandfather of absurdism. This intense piece explores Witkacy’s fascination with the dualism of his characters, his rejection of naturalism and his belief that upon leaving the theatre we should feel as if we have awoken from a nightmare where our understanding of what we have seen is purely and deeply instinctive. It is also a look at the vampires that lurk within family relations. The play will be shown on the 20th of November at 7 pm.
