The Grand Theatre (Teatr Wielki), home to the National Opera and Ballet, is the setting for this equally grand opera originally premiered in 1904 in La Scala, Milan. Composed by Giacomo Puccini, this magnificent spectacle tells the story of American Lieutenant Pinkerton and his love for the Japanese geisha Butterfly, which ultimately ends tragically (as operas do).
