These days, gender roles are a common subject of discussion in the art world so it is surprising, though certainly welcome, that Gender Check is the first comprehensive look at gender dynamics in art across Eastern Europe since the 1960s. The situation of this area is unique within Europe, having only recently emerged from behind the wall in 1989, and the concepts of femininity and masculinity evolved in a unique way both before and after this date.This exhibition features the works of over 200 artists in the form of paintings, sculpture, installations, photography, posters, films, and videos.
