Warsaw's Jewish Ghetto: The Other City

The Other City is a documentary photographic project attempting to describe the area of the former Jewish ghetto (1940–1943), created by Nazi Germany in the heart of Warsaw and in the heart of Poland. Today, "the ghetto place" - as Jacek Leonciak - a historian and expert on Jewish ghetto calls it, stretches between the Science and Culture Hall in the south and Arkadia department store in the north. The limits of the former ghetto from the south are: Nowe Miasto, Krasinski Palace and Gardens, Bankowy Sq, and from the west the ghetto was closed by Zelazna and Okopowa St., the old Jewish cemetery and Powazki cemetery.

The artists involveed in the project have been photographing this area from rooftops and top floors, using large-format cameras. The photos are taken in colour, as it makes the presented landscape look more realistic.
