Five Flavours Film Festival
The 9th edition of Five Flavours Film Festival will be held from 12th to 20th November, 2015 in Warsaw, Poland in Muranów, Kinoteka and MSN
.
Five Flavours Film Festival is an annual overview of cinema from East, South-East and South Asia. For nine consecutive years, the Festival has presented premiere screenings of the latest and most appealing productions from the Far East as well as classic Asian films and retrospectives of renowned filmmakers.
The programme is composed of productions mostly unknown in Poland and not available in regular theatrical distribution. The previous editions saw the pioneering overviews of cinema from Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
The Festival hosted a number of prominent artists from Asia, giving the audience a unique chance to meet the outstanding filmmakers.
The screenings are always accompanied by a diverse program of additional events, including meetings with specialists, travelers, debates, and workshops.
The ambitious repertoire and the creative atmosphere are appreciated by the community, and the Festival receives prestigious distinctions. It was nominated to Polish Film Institute awards (in the International Film Events category), and the Canadian film industry portal TWITCHFILMS placed it among the 10 best events of 2013 (alongside festivals in Cannes and Toronto).
This year's programme involves among others:
• New Asian Cinema – Five Flavours' competition section presents 10 best recent productions from East, South-East and South Asia. The winning titles are selected by People's Jury - a group of 11 cinema enthusiasts who are non-professionally or semi-professionally interested in Asian cinema
• Focus: Japanese Female Directors - brings a selection of the most interesting titles directed by Japanese female authors. Even if it has been relatively recently that Japanese women took on directing, their voice quickly became distinctively different and presented Japan from a new perspective. The section will be accompanied by a series of open lectures and presentations called Asian Academy.
• Taiwanese Wuxia - an exciting presentation of Taiwanese wuxia classics. Despite the genre has always been hugely influential in Chinese countries, wuxia films has been hardly screened in Poland.
• Retrospective: John Woo - a selection of the cult classics by the Hong Kong action master. Films that John Woo directed from 1986 to 1992 perfectly balanced Eastern and Western cinematic traditions to inspire directors all over the world to make their own action flicks far more thrilling.
• Horror cinema – a late-night marathon made up of blood-flowing horrors which will make your emotions reach extreme levels.
The 9th edition continues the visual identification based on the Lunar Calendar and zodiac signs. Thus 2015 is the year of the Green Sheep.
