A Festival Across Cultures
One of Warsaw's cultural highlights, the Cross-Culture Festival, begins this month on the 26th and will continue until 2 October. The goal of the festival is to introduce Varsovians to a wide variety of world cultures through music, and since 2005 the organizers have been inviting bands and artists from across the globe to perform. The festival also includes educational elements in the program through workshops (Persian Music class, Didgeridoo class), film screenings (short films and documentaries), and children's activities.
The majority of performances will take place in a specially constructed tent outside of the Palace of Culture and Science on Plac Defilad, with film screenings taking place nearby at the Palace's Kinoteka theatre. The opening concert by Brazil's Ivan Lins and Spain's Concha Buika will take place in the Palace's Congress Hall.
Throughout the week, the festival tent will see performances from: Cacique'97 (Portugal/Mozambique), Ladysmith Black Mambazo (South Africa), Tamburellisti Di Torrepaduli (South Italy), Mayra Andrade (Cape Verde), Mamer (China), Qing Mei Jing Yue (China), Hanggai (China), Carlos Libedinsky & Narcotango (Argentina), Astillero (Argentina), Osjan (Poland/Japan), and Salif Keita (Mali).
