Kaczmarek to Commissioned for Warsaw Rising Anniversary

One of the top destinations for history buffs in Warsaw is the modern, interactive Warsaw Rising Museum. This August, the museum will mark the 67th anniversary of the Warsaw Rising which began on 1 August 1944. The Polish resistance fought for two months to liberate the city from its Nazi occupiers, a plan which ultimately failed and resulted in massive casualties including tens of thousands of fighters and hundreds of thousands of civilians.

In honour of the anniversary, the museum has commissioned a piece from US-based Polish composer Jan A.P. Kaczmarek, who will compose a 15 to 20 minute work for a premiere on 29 July 2011 at the Rising Museum.

Kaczmarek is well-known as a composer of scores for films and documentaries, including 2005's Finding Neverland which landed him an Oscar for Original Music Score.
