Premiering this month at the Wroclaw Opera is Russian composer and librettist Modest Mussorgskys masterpiece - Boris Godunov. The opera of course tells the life story of Boris Godunov who reigned as the Russian Tsar from 1598 to 1605, and is based on the play by Aleksander Pushkin. The opera itself has a fascinating history as it underwent several major creative revisions by Shostakovich, Rimsky-Korsakov, and even Mussorgsky himself - though the original version is what is most often performed.
