Wroclaw's Mayor Best in Poland

As the water level of the Oder, Widawa, and Olawa rivers slowly drops in Lower Silesia, Wroclaw must now deal with the aftermath of the flood which wreaked havoc across some residential areas in the city, particularly Korzanow. So far the cost of battling the flood in Lower Silesia has exceeded 3 million zloty with nearly 400 people affected. The situation was serious, but residents are thankful that the flood did not rise to anywhere near such an extent as in 1997 when about one third of the city was under water.

In the meantime, Wroclaw can celebrate the news that its mayor, Rafal Dutkiewicz, has been named the best mayor in Poland according to a ranking in Polish Newsweek. Dutkiewicz has been lauded for his success in creating jobs and attracting foreign investments to the city including such big-name corporations as Google, LG, HP, Volvo, and Nokia. His unique combination of business and political skills has seen Dutkiewicz keep his role as mayor for eight years already, and there seems to be no doubt that a few more will be easy to secure!
