Festival Season Begins
With the arrival of summer comes the arrival of festival season in Wroclaw and across Poland. On the Baltic coast in Gdynia, Poland's largest music festival, Opener, will take place from 1-4 July with such guests as Tricky, Pearl Jam, Groove Armada, Ben Harper, Grace Jones, Massive Attack, Pavement, Hot Chip, and Gorrilaz.
Our city of Wroclaw also has an incredible amount to offer in terms of festivals this season, including Wroclaw's summer-long organ festival - Non Sola Scripta. This festival will showcase organ masters from across the world every Sunday in the University church (pl. Uniwersytecki 1) from 4 July to 5 September.
Also kicking off in early July is the Brave Festival (2-9 July), celebrating the art, music, theatre, and dance of cultures from the furthest corners of the globe (read more at: http://www.bravefestival.pl).
A little further out in the nearby town of Lubiaz, the Slot Art Festival will take place from 6 to 10 July. This youth-oriented alternative festival taking place in an ancient monastery boasts 10 stages of music, 140 workshops, 100 musical artists, and several exhibitions and lectures (http://www.slot.art.pl/).
The Era Nowe Horyzonty festival will take place at the end of July (22 July - 1 August), and is well-known as one of the most comprehensive film festivals in Poland. Filmmaker retrospectives, exhibitions, and of course hundreds of film screenings are all in the program. Era Nowe Horyzonty also has an impressive line up of musical artists including Mike Patton with his Mondo Cane project, Daedelus, King Midas Sound, Konono No.1, Gonjasufi, and Cooly G (http://www.enh.pl).
