Wroclaw Works Toward Hosting 2017 World Games
The city of Wroclaw is in the running to host the World Games in the year 2017. The World Games, as the name implies is an international event, with a focus on sports not already associated with the Olympics. Some of these include body building, squash, netball, and orienteering. Many events that began in the World Games went on to join the Olympics, such as the triathlon.
The event takes place every four years and was last hosted by Kaohsiung in Taiwan, with the 2013 edition set to take place in Cali, Columbia.
The president of the International World Games Association, Ron Froehlich, recently visited Wroclaw and is said to have been very impressed with the city and its facilities, particularly Centennial Hall. Wroclaw has moved into the finals for the 2017 World Games candidacy. The winning city will be announced in the spring of 2012.
