Wroclaw Scientists in Bandage Advance

Scientists from Wroclaw University have been under the international spotlight for a recent development in bandages. The scientists have claimed to have genetically modified flax, which itself is one of the world's oldest fibres dating back to Egyptian times, to improve healing in patients.

While traditional bandages have typically taken the role of protecting wounds, the genetically modified flax fibre bandages developed in Wroclaw will promote the regrowth of skin cells through boosted antioxidant compounds.

While the bandages have only been approved for use on the skin, the Wroclaw team hopes to explore further uses for the flax including an anti-infection oil and a product for cancer treatment.
