Gambling in ex-communist countries often evokes less than welcoming images of seedy, clandestine betting holes where youíd likely be as scared of winning as you would be of losing. Cast aside such anxieties as you enter the Zagreb branch of Casino City in the Regent Esplanade Hotel where youíll feel as safe and as sophisticated as the Orient Express passengers who used the Hotel as a stop-over on the way from Paris to Istanbul. Bask in the warm glow of success at one of the 10 game tables or 20 slot machines open to all or, should you take your winning to a new level (or the embarrassment of losing is kicking in), request a place at the private salon where, dressed in white tux and opposite sinister looking characters, you can play out your favourite James Bond fantasies.

I got completely taken to the cleaners here, but then that will teach me not to drink AND gamble at the same time in future! The croupiers were very nice however!
