Poland Delighted With Olympic Tally

They may not have come back dripping with gold, but the Polish team returned jubilant from Vancouver. It' was Poland's most successful Winter Olympics yet.

All in all, the Poles snatched 6 medals, including one gold, three silvers and two bronze. Most exciting of all was Justyna Kowalczyk's nail-biting finish in the 30 km cross country skiing, in which she snatched gold from Norwegian Marit Bjoergan in a photo finish. Kowalczyk won three of Poland's six medals, not least her country's first gold at the games since 1972.

Meanwhile, ski jumper extraordinaire Adam Malysz delighted fans with a timely return to form, winning two silvers is his events. Another unexpected triumph was bronze for the Ladies Speed Skating Team Pursuit, with Luiza Zlotkowska, Katarzyna Wozniak and Katarzyna Bachleda-Curus doing Poland proud.

Zakopane Life was joining in the cheering throughout the tournament, and our nerves were thoroughly shredded by Kowalczyk's final performance. Gratalujemy!
